TT and Peru share long-standing bilateral and trade relations, with total trade amounting to US$30.7 million in 2022.
This is according to a webinar co-hosted by the TT Chamber of Industry and Commerce (TT Chamber) and the Embassy of Peru on Tuesday.
The webinar explored south-south co-operation and business opportunities between both countries.
TT Chamber president Kiran Maharaj said the aim is to bring together key stakeholders – manufacturers, exporters, importers and distributors – with a keen interest in doing business with Peru.
The webinar also highlighted how companies can leverage logistics and market intelligence opportunities to increase trade.
“We continue to explore new areas for business co-operation and sharing of best practices as well as insights on topics such as intellectual property, fisheries, mining, technical co-operation and education,” Maharaj said.
In 2022 total Peruvian exports to TT were US$20.2 million while total Peruvian imports from TT were US$19.2 million
TT’s exports to Peru include petrochemicals, plastics, furniture, mattresses, beverages, spirits and vinegar, and electrical equipment parts.
The top five Peruvian goods exported to TT in 2022 were plastics, diary produce, vegetable preparations, aluminium, and seafood.
Peru ranked as TT’s 68th trading partner in terms of imports and 60th in terms of export destination, in 2020.
In his remarks, Ambassador of Peru to TT David Malaga said he hopes to bring the Peruvian supply of high-quality fresh fruits and vegetables to the TT market.
“We seek to make visible the great biodiversity of food that is produced in our country offering high quality, sufficient and varied supply of safe, nutritious, affordable and sustainable food at all times,” Malaga said.
He added that one of the great comparative advantages Peru has is its agroclimatic conditions –which allows a continuous production of these valuable foods throughout the year – and the other is the daily flights of COPA Airlines from Lima to TT via Panama.
Also speaking at the webinar, COPA Airlines cargo specialist Joshua Martin said the airline offers cargo opportunities for imports and exports through their passenger airlines and freight services.
