Since Ocean Choice started operating the Port au Choix facility in 2007, there has been over a 150 million pound decline in quota available for processing, the company said.
Newfoundland and Labrador (NL)-based company Ocean Choice announced Monday it has sold its Port au Choix shrimp processing facility to the NL-based Barry Group.
The Port au Choix facility processes cooked and peeled shrimp for export to global markets.
Barry Group will begin operation of the Port aux Choix plant this month, with plans to operate the plant for the season – sustaining employment and operations in the region, according to the companies.
Ocean Choice said of the sale that shrimp quotas and catch rates continue to be in decline in the province, and there is a further forecasted decline in the shrimp biomass, the companies said.
